Democrats Putting America At Risk
Please, pray tell, explain to me just what the hell Nelson and Kerry (and Dodd) are doing with their trips to the Middle East, that is, other than interfering with the foreign policy of the the elected government of the United States of America during a time of war.
Talking about a "misguided road to disaster for America at the hands of terrorists in the years to come," the collective effort of the Democrats appear to set on nothing less. Talk to the Syrians they are saying. But doesn't this fly in the face of reality and what the two countries already know, as Tony Snow noted yesterday?
"The Syrians should have absolutely no doubt," Snow said, "that the position of the United States government is the same as it has been, which is: They know what they need to do. They need to stop harboring terrorists. They need to stop supporting terrorism in Iraq, Lebanon and elsewhere."How can the Dems not know that they are giving our enemy a victory? Again, as Snow noted:
... regardless of the message delivered by the senators, "the Syrians have already won a PR victory" because the visits were "lending ... legitimacy" to the Assad government.I like the idea that with Ben Nelson going to Syria and John Kerry going to Iraq, (and Chris Dodd to Syria) maybe Jane Fonda could visit the nuclear sites in Iran to complete the triumvirate of treason.
Why aren't we hearing more comments like "These liberal-left politicians believe that the November 7 elections gave them a mandate to undercut US policy with Muslim dictators. That's just not so and these men should be condemned" ?

Two points...
1. Perhaps before you start accusing people of treason, you should look at your own party. Another senator traveling to Syria is Republican Arlen Spector of Pennsylvania.
2. The absence of a strategy/plan going into the war in Iraq followed by three years of Bush/Cheney/Rummy/Rice "Stay the Course" (More like "Stay the Curse") hype has created a debacle in Iraq that can only be resolved through diplomacy. For this effort to be succesful the United States will have to talk and negotiate with other countries and generally, you don't need to have these types of conversations with friends.
Chris Dodd, John Kerry and Arlan Spector are demonstrating leadership. Despite what you may feel "Stay the course" is not leadership -- "Stay the Course" is arrogance. Looking at the death tolls in Iraq, we can't afford any more arrogance.
