Fundraisers for Al-Qaeda detained in Spain

From BFFW: The detained were Algerian-born and were linked to terrorists in United Kingdom. British agents have been cooperating with Spanish counterterrorist services in the development of this operation, named "Emir". Since 2005, the Spanish Civil Guard was following the steps of this cell who was sending funds for terrorist organizations linked to Al Qaeda since 2005 in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan or Algeria. The arrested (in Huelva, Lepe, Azcoitia and Isla Antilla) obtained the funding by selling different falsified products, among all documents and wearing outfits. They used to send it in small amounts, always under 2,400€ to avoid investigations... ... more

The seven Islamists imprisoned at A Lama prison accused of March 11th bombings ask for help to the prison Catholic chaplain

The islamists who are imprisoned in the Galician prison of A Lama after being condemned because of the March 11th bombings, which killed 191 and hurt 1824 people, have asked the Catholic Church for help. The seven imprisoned -sentenced from 12 to 23 years in jail- have interviewed themselves with the prison's chaplain to try to reach their goals. Their target is to make the priest intercede in their behalf to benefit from pensions, company and ill people's attention which can only be reached by the Penitentiary Catholic Service, whose boss is the priest. The Fall of Lebanon: May 21, 2008 A Date Like December 7, 1941 And September 11, 2001 That Should Now Live In Infamy

(May 21, 2008) ... the supporters of the Lebanese government--the leadership of the majority of the Sunni Muslim, Christian, and Druze communities--capitulated to the demands of Hizballah. And who can blame them? With a steady drumbeat of terrorist acts and assassinations, with the Hizballah offensive seizing Sunni west Beirut, with the lack of support from the West, they concluded that the battle was unwinnable. In the way of a follow-up to Mike's post this morning in which he linked to Barry Rubin's "unusually despairing column about the fall of Lebanon," I'm posting more here to call attention to what I believe... ... more

The 'Unthinkable Motive' Of Liberals (Video)

In this clip, Sam Harris "touches on a blind spot shared by many commentators, especially on the left (HT - David Thompson). David Thompson on Sam Harris, "root causes" and the left's disbelief in Islam as a motive for terrorism... "I think liberals, almost by definition, don't know what it's like to really believe in God. They don't know what it's like to be sure that the book they keep by their bedside is the literal word of the creator of the universe and that death is merely a passage to an eternity of happiness. On 'Tracing The Left's Escalating War On Military Recruiters'

Michelle Malkin has posted a chronicle of the unhinged antiwar left's escalating attacks on our nations military recruiters. Michelle notes in her piece how the anti-recruiter thugs have thrived thanks to a combination of public indifference, law enforcement fecklessness, and left-wing ideological apologism, and challenges the left and the Democrat Party to raise their voices - loudly and clearly - to condemn the ongoing, militant anti-recruiter campaign. I would take this a step further and offer that the entire nation should be be outraged and be demanding that the left and the Democratic Party raise their voices - loudly... ... more

Pakistan does not control Islamic terrorists

Pakistan's premier military intelligence agency has lost control of some of the networks of Pakistani militants it has nurtured since the 1980s, and is now suffering the violent blowback of that policy, two former senior intelligence officials and other officials close to the agency say. [...] The growing strength of the militants, many of whom now express support for Al Qaeda's global jihad, presents a grave threat to Pakistan's security, as well as NATO efforts to push back the Taliban in Afghanistan. American officials have begun to weigh more robust covert operations to go after Al Qaeda in the lawless... ... more

March 11th bombings

Today the sentence to all the 28 accused of the bombings has been read. The first thing I have to say is that I am perplexed, really surprised by the result. And that's why I'm surprised Zapatero is so happy about the sentence (or so he has said). Three persons were considered as "masterminds" of the attacks: Mohammed the Egiptian (acquitted entirely), Youssef Belhadj (12 years for belonging to terrorist gang) and Hassan el Haski (15 years for being leader of a terrorist gang). None of them is considered to have taken part in the bombings.... ... more

An "Anti-Propaganda" Opinion: 'Islam versus the free world'

We aren't fighting a war against terrorists to win the hearts and minds of the Middle East. We are fighting it to end the threat of terrorism. Victory can't be achieved with bullets and bombs alone. This is, at its core, an ideological war. Just as we defeated communism by defeating the communists' ideology, we need to attack and destroy that of the radical Islamists. - Jed BabbinOnly the most dim witted liberal progressives of the George Soros/MoveOn.org variety could fail to recognize that radical Islam threatens the very existence of the free world and the lives of peace-loving Muslims... ... more

Today's Must Read: 'How Bush Lost the War on Terror' And What Our Future Leaders Must Know (If It Isn't Too Late Already)

Take-home message: Militant Islam means to convert, enslave, or exterminate the infidel non-Muslim world, depending on the degree of resistance encountered. The Koran demands it, and militant Islamists are implementing it wherever they have the critical mass to enforce it. Secular pluralism and a democratically established Rule of Law will not survive, absent protectors that exercise lethal force to defend it. This should be the litmus test of who should be our next president, and no other.Today's Hyscience pick for "You absolutely need to read this" is by Alex Alexiev, who reminds us that whether we call it Islamism, radical... ... more

More on the German plot

According to today's report in German news, the plotters had orders to act on September 15th (that is, after everybody would be calm, saying, well, on September 11st, nothing has happened..). Also the German police is worried about the characteristics of the plotters, as two of them are white converts. Guenther Bernstein, Interior Minister, said on Tuesday "Germans converting to Islam should be watched because they tend to show particular fanaticism in order to prove worthy of their new religion,". US - Led Forces Strike Taliban Inside Pakistan. So Why Not Eliminate Safe Harbors For Our Enemy?

Finally, the U.S. takes the action it should have taken long ago, striking the Taliban inside Pakistan: Now, however, the U.S. is claiming the cross border attack was a mistake. But was it? My guess is that the U.S. admission of an error is nothing more than cover for Musharraf. As for the attack into the tribal area of Pakistan, we should have done so long ago, and if Musharraf doesn't eliminate the safe harbor for the Taliban, we should. Jefferson Versus the Muslim Pirates - America's 'First' War On Terror

Two centuries ago, without congressional or public debate, a president whom we think of today as peaceable, Thomas Jefferson, launched America's first war on foreign soil, a war against terror. The enemy was Muslim; the war was waged unconventionally, with commandos, native troops, and encrypted intelligence, and launched from foreign bases under short-term alliances. For nearly two hundred years, the Barbary pirates had haunted the Mediterranean, enslaving tens of thousands of Europeans and extorting millions of dollars from their countries in a mercenary holy war against Christendom. - SourceChristopher Hitchens piece at Townhall today reminds me that not much has... ... more

On The "Azzam" Threat As A Prelude To Future Jihad in America

The take home message here to our friends on the Left is in the form of a question: "What part of the fact that these people are deadly serious about forcing you to convert to Islam or die - are you finding so hard to understand?"

Are We Approaching The Point of No Return?

What kind of people provide a market for videotaped beheadings of innocent hostages? What kind of people would throw an old man in a wheelchair off a cruise liner into the sea, simply because he was Jewish? What kind of people would fly planes into buildings to vent their hate at the cost of their own lives?

Osama: 'A Jihadi in Love'

Jules Crittenden has a plan:Agent Whitney, all rehabbed and trained up in spy stuff, gets dispatched to Waziristan, on the Pak-Afghan border. Agent Whitney and a suitcase full of CDs and Playboy magazines, maybe some devil water in a jug marked XXX, will be the bait. Infidel helicopter drops Agent Whitney down in the middle of some rocky Waziri valley. She cranks "I Will Always Love You" on the boombox and starts filing her nails. 'Flower Power Never Won A War

Let there be no doubt about it. Compare today with World War II-we wouldn't have been able to win then, if we had fought by today's "sensitive" warfighting rules, set by the press/the Left. Make no mistake, the enemy knows this, and that's why we're at war with them. They see us as weak, and ripe for defeat at their hands.Continue reading "Flower power never won a war - The Jihad Auxiliary Brigade" ...... ... more

It Sounded So Good In The Begining, But Where Did It All Go Wrong, George?

The primary goal of Islam remains from the teaching of Muhammad--to create the "Islamic kingdom of God on Earth." The goal is not negotiable. There is no compromise. The aim of the Islamic movement is to bring about somewhere in the world a new society wholeheartedly committed to the teachings of Islam in their totality and to strive to abide by those teachings in its government, political, economic and social organizations, its relation with other states, its educational system and moral values, and all other aspects of its way of life.

Are you Ready? Psalm 9-11 - 'I will fear no evil'

Strong, ruthless men and women go long hours without sleep for you. They do everything they can to keep you safe. They are your shield. They will kill for you, and die for you.You can take comfort from that knowledge and draw strength from their example. ... But that is not enough. There is something you have to find within yourself. It may be that one day, our shield will fail, and the insidious foe that operates from beyond our borders and even within them will penetrate that shield and kill some of us again. On the Israel-Hez War and the Democratic Peace

Angie just posted this question: Hi Professor Rummel. I've read your stuff in the past and was just wondering if you had thought about posting something that counters the recent media criticism that I've seen where someone mentioned that Israel and Lebanon are both democratic. I forgot the reporter, but it seems like someone was questioning the validity of the proposition by yourself and President Bush (I have read that he has read Natan Sharansky's book on democracy) that greater democracy is a solution to global violence. Will you counter that question at all? I have. My post on this... ... more

World War III--Abolitionists Versus Slavery Part III

Here, I am responding to the comments on my World War III--It's Abolitionists Versus Slavery," cross-posted on Dean's World. Annoying Old Guy said: It's WWIV. WWIII was the Cold War. RJR: I've made this point about the Cold War myself, but when participating in a debate I think it best to stick to the terms used to avoid confusion, such as "World War III." Otherwise, one gets involved in side issues. Jeffrey Boser said: I'm sorry Rudy, but it feels very much like you're trying to attach your agenda to the War-On-Terrorism fad. My calling the people of absolute dictatorships civil slaves has occasioned some comments important enough to respond to here and in Part III. An exchange with Walter W. Cox (published with permission): I have been wondering...if this line of thought really passes a "reality check." What got me to thinking about it is this: I know that I would MUCH rather be a citizen of the People's Republic of China, or of Putin's Russia, than a slave in the American South circa 1850. Democide Galore--Iran Says "Kill Them All"

Part of the problem in communicating the nature of our enemies and their depths of depravity is finding the right words to describe the horrors they inflict on people. The following from an article, "Khomeini fatwa 'led to killing of 30,000 in Iran'" by the diplomatic correspondent Chrisina Lamb, helps (link here). I am reposting it from 3/6/05: Children as young as 13 were hanged from cranes, six at a time, in a barbaric two-month purge of Iran's prisons on the direct orders of Ayatollah Khomeini, according to a new book by his former deputy. On this Memorial Day wekend, I think back ...

On this Memorial Day weekend, I think back to a few specific events in history, and I marvel at the courage and selflessness displayed by our men and women in arms. First comes to mind the heroes on Bataan and Corregidor in WW2. They were surrounded and outnumbered and eventually captured by a fanatical enemy that worshiped a heathen god and had no moral decency (remind you of anyone today?). Their treatment on the Bataan death march and in the death camps of the Philippines was unimaginable. Many died from murder, disease, and starvation, yet the remainder stayed strong and... ... more

Taliban Offensive Busted

For people my age, we have the Vietnam War to which we can compare the liberal media's treatment of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of my bitter memories is of the 1968 Tet offensive by the North Vietnamese controlled Vietcong that failed. South Vietnamese and American forces not only held, but in many parts of the country they so badly mauled the Vietcong that their ability to launch another offensive was set back many years. Yet, the Media played up the Vietcong's momentary successes in Saigon and Hue, and subsequently treated the offensive as a Vietcong victory. This... ... more

Middle East Update

The face of the war on terror must include Israel, which some, including the MSM, have not done in the past.  Israel is in fact a crucial part of this global war on terror.  Caroline B. Glick has another excellent article in Jewish World Review.  Here's a taste: The face of the enemy has changed. If in the past it was possible to say that the war being waged against Israel was unique and distinct from the global jihad, after the events of the past week, it is no longer possible to credibly make such a claim. Update And Audio On the Blue Book of Freedom

In March I wrote a blog on my just completed The Blue Book Of Freedom, which I wrote to get the word out about the incredible virtues and moral goods of democratic freedom. I purposely kept it short (about 80 pages), on message, and factual. It is a declaration of war on thug regimes, and I envision the book as something like Mao's Red Book. People are encouraged to wave it vigorously in front of the North Korea, Sudan, and Iran embassies shouting, "Long live freedom. Down with thug regimes." Even, "We will bury you." China's Middle East: Xinjiang

Xinjiang. Don't talk to the Chinese about Xinjiang. They hate it. They hate the area and its people, the Uighurs. Xinjiang, like Taiwan and neighboring Tibet, is a neuralgic issue for China, which desperately needs internal stability in that predominantly Muslim, resource-rich and strategically important region. Beijing's strategic and energy objectives are based on stability in Xinjiang and its Central Asian policies grow out of its preoccupation with stability there. The United States has accused China of using the war on terrorism as an excuse to suppress political dissent in Xinjiang. In the region, since September 11, China has beefed... ... more

Middle East Authoritarianism IS Getting Better--Look At The Data

I have been pointing out that the invasion of Iraq, the struggle for democracy there, and the democratic election of a national government was having a pro-democratic impact on other Middle Eastern Muslim countries. Since my view was at sharp variance from what some realists and other foreign policy experts have been saying, I decided to test this. I used Freedom House ratings, 1973-2005 (see below the map on the page), and tracked the year-by-year change in ratings for Muslim Middle Eastern (ME) countries. These ratings are on civil liberties (CL) and political rights (PR), and vary from 1 for... ... more

Filastin al-Muslimah, a Hamas monthly distributed from the UK, continues to incite to terrorism, mainly suicide bombing terrorism. At the same time, it disseminates messages denying Israel's existence and expressing sympathy for global jihad elements. A newly issued report by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center in Israel shows that a Hamas monthly published from the United Kingdom - considered a "primary mouthpiece" - continues to advocate terrorist suicide bombing, turning its perpetrators in to role models for the new generation of Palestinians. Thucydides, Aquinas and the GWOT

There was a fascinating symposium on the "Future of War" recently in the pages of "Historically Speaking, the Bulletin of The Historical Society," with some important lessons to be heeded in the GWOT. As Thucydides argued, people go to war for one, or some combination of, three reasons: fear, honor, and interest. He is largely correct. However, a proper understanding of our actual human nature compels us to refine the Thucydidean formula to conform to what we have described in past posts as the three motors of human action: material interest (survival and growth, source of fear), social interest (order... ... more

Exporting Democracy? No, Unchaining a People

When President Bush calls for "fostering democracy," one should read this phrase as "helping a people cast off the chains that bind and the fear that paralyzes them." The difference between tyranny and liberal democracy is that in the former people are in chains, in effect prisoners of the whims and desires of the thugs that rule, and in fear over what might happen or be done to them - metaphorically, the 3am knock on the door. One should keep this firmly in mind when coming across the assertion that we should not "export democracy." It's like saying that we... ... more
