Beirut Falling into Hizbullah Hands

Jeha has been mapping the fight: (Click map to enlarge. More maps here ...) The situation in Beirut is dire, with Hizbullah gunmen "shia thugs" having taken control of large parts of Beirut and forced the closure of MP Saad Hariri's media outlets in a major confrontation with Prime Minister Fouad Saniora's government. Only yesterday, the Army Warned that "Tension Threatens Unity of the Troops":The Lebanese Army Command on Thursday warned that persisting violence "poses a threat to unity of the military establishment" and offered to help the feuding factions work out a settlement. The command, in a communiqué, said... ... more

Lebanon Explodes

(Map of the fighting - HT Jehas' Nail) Hezbollah and the Sunni Militias are fighting in Lebanon right now. Live reports from Lebanon here, images of the fighting can be found here. No surprise, the Hezbollah has essentially declared war on the Lebanese government. Syria is most definitely involved. Naharnet reports that Hizbullah has linked its private telephone networks to the Syrian Army's communications system as well as to Syria's mobile telephone network allowing Syrian intelligence to operate freely in Lebanon and avoid Lebanese controls. Here's Some observations into Sayyed Hassan Nassrallah's speech. It provides some insight into how... ... more

Syria Up To Old Tricks In Lebanon

If you thought that Syria's interference in Lebanon ended in late 2004 when the UN told Syria it was time to end its interference in Lebanon's affairs and recognize Lebanese sovereignty, you'd be mistaken. Syria has never really accepted international law, and it doesn't appear that it has any plans to begin now. Now we learn that Lebanese police have busted a Syria-based terrorist network grouping operatives from three Arab nationalities on charges of carrying out the twin-bus bombings north of Beirut last month and planning further attacks:... ... more

Hezbollah Myths Shattered

What do you call Hezbollah's campaign to rebuild Lebanon? According to a Hezbollah spokesman as reported by the New York Times, it's known as 'Construction Jihad.' Now that you're back from falling to the floor in laughter, or at least I am, it is of interest to note the NYT's latest article on the reconstruction in Lebanon. Do you recall the photos ofHezbollah officials handing out wads of American cash to residents in Lebanon? Those officials appeared to be in schools or a similar building. Hassan Nasrallah claimed rebuilding Lebanon would be quick, and I certainly thought Hezbollah would do... ... more

Gemayel Assasination Designed by Iranian Government

This very nifty piece of political art was done by RoxieAmerica at Blue Is Beautiful: ... where you'll find a very good commentary on the assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Pierre Gemayel designed by the Iranian government. The artwork does a good job of depicting Iran's sponsorship and direction of terrorism throughout the ME, and elsewhere, while RoxieAmerica's commentary points to the Islamic Republic of Iran's extensive history of political assassinations, both inside and outside the borders of Iran.... ... more

Lebanon: A Job Half Done - And It's Back Again

Jules Crittenden makes a good point:... It will be interesting after the assassination of Pierre Gemayel in Lebanon ... not to mention last summer's hijacking of the nation by Hezbollah ... not to mention last year's assassination of Rafik Hariri ... not to mention the last 25 years of Syrian and Iranian interference in Lebanon and now in Iraq ... it will be interesting to see if anyone will still counsel talks with Syria and Iran under any terms that do not include a very real threat of force. ... The Lebanese, cursed by geography and history, were making the... ... more

'Man of the People' Finally Emerges

Following the conclusion of the Israel-Hezbollah war, Hezbollah immediately declared victory and victory parades were held in Damascus and Tehran. Interestingly both Syria and Iran denied they supported Hezbollah through military means until after the war was concluded. Pundits from all across weighed in as to who the real victor was, but what was really odd is that most pundits within Israel believed Israel had fallen short but there were several voices within the Arab press who wrote Hezbollah lost. Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah fled within the first couple of days of the conflict and was only seen in short,... ... more

Lebanese Turn On Nasrallah

Nasrallah a "new Saladin"? Definately not, more like just another ho-hum Islamic cleric with more ego than common sense, combined with belief in an ideology more appropriate for the Dark Ages than the modern world.

Fox: IDF Attacking Bekaa Valley

Fox News is reporting that the IAF has "lit up the sky" with flares and jets over the Bekaa Valley, the power base of Hezbollah. I've been wondering when a big push into the Bekaa Valley (once called the most heavily defended air corridor on earth) would occur - it has seemed all too important that Israel would encircle southern Lebanon along the Litani river and move into the Bekaa Valley and north along the coast. The Bekaa Valley has for years been Hezbollah's own haven for the manufacture of illicit drugs and a training ground for its fanatical terrorists.... ... more

What You Really Need To Know About Qana

We either solve this thing now, all the way to Tehran, or the short term peace that the anti-war crowd is calling for, along with the Jimmy Carters of the world, will most certainly result in a very different kind of "Final Solution," one in which in retrospect, at least in the minds of those few that survive it, will wish ...

Schoolyard Antics

Komati's admission was troubling for four reasons. It was probably untrue, since Hizbullah almost certainly factored in what the Israelis might do when it planned the soldiers' abduction; the admission was designed to shift blame away from Hizbullah, since if it had known about the Israeli response ...

Ignorance was bliss

A senior Hezbollah official said Tuesday the civilian targeting suicide bombing terrorists guerrillas did not expect Israel to react with an all-out offensive after the capture of two soldiers, the first acknowledgment by the group that it had miscalculated the consequences of the raid two weeks ago. (Hezbollah is playing checkers in a game of chess, thinking that an assault on Israel's terrority would give them an advantage at the negotiating table.) While the UN repairs roads for Hezbollah, the terrorist organization promised to fire more rockets into Israel's civilian population. Meanwhile, Kofi Annan, the oil-for-food guru, has all but... ... more
