The Marine and the bear
Peter Schramm writes at No Left Turns:This proves there are no ex-Marines, just Marines. A father and his three sons are camping. A three hundred pound bear starts running off with their cooler. The six year old boy (and future Marine!) hurles a shovel at it as it is moving away from them back into the woods (with the cooler). Bear turns back menacing the boy. The Marine picks up a log--the closest weapon at hand--throws it at the bear and kills it, saving son's life. The Marine is then given a ticket for not securing the camp site. It... ... more

L.A. Hospital Employees Receive Training On 'Their Responsibilities' In Death Of Patient
The AP reports that workers at an inner-city hospital where Edith Isabel Rodriguez, 43, died writhing on the floor vomiting blood last month in the emergency room, have "received training on their responsibilities," and will receive no other penalty, no prosecution. The hospital has been cited more than a dozen times in 3 1/2 years for inadequate care that has led to patient deaths and injuries, and in the case of Ms. Rodriquez, a security camera showed her being brought to the emergency room lobby by police officers around 1 a.m. When the officers told a nurse that Rodriguez was... ... morePosted at 11:30 AM

(AP)] Jules Crittenden posts on a freedom of the press issue, one in which the Boston Herald has asked the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to reconsider its ruling in the libel case of Judge Ernest Murphy vs. Boston Herald, Wedge, Crittenden etal. Jules was acquitted at trial. In its ruling against Dave Wedge, the Herald argues, the high court misrepresented some key facts of the case. The SJC issued a... ... morePosted at 10:37 AM

'The Great Jules Crittenden'
That's how Dean Barrett at Hugh Hewitt refers to Jules, in explaining that when Jules was just a writer for the Boston Herald, even Dean had never heard of him even though his newspaper was located in his hometown. Now he has, and he credits Jules' blog, Forward Movement, as the reason that Jules has established himself as a nationally known writer and content provider. You can read more of what Dean has to say in his essay on new vs. old media and the need for mainstream print writers and newspapers to aggressively establish themselves on the Internet -... ... morePosted at 8:31 PM

Today is Anzac Day In Australia And New Zealand
Jules Crittenden has up a reminder that April 25 is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand, marking the landings at Gallipoli in 1915 and the disastrous campaign there. Churchill's idea for a second front went badly wrong, and he ended up resigning as First Lord of the Admiralty. The deaths of thousands of diggers at Gallipoli became a galvanizing event that helped establish a sense of nationhood for Australia, which until recently had been a British colony. A controversial event in which some see Australia as the victim of imperial Britain and others as an early example of Australian... ... morePosted at 11:11 AM

NC Atty General: 'Duke Lacrosse Players Innocent Of All Charges'
Mike Nifong, who rigged the investigation, had it all wrong, the liberal media that convicted the students before they ever came to trial had it all wrong, 100 professors at Duke University had it all wrong, the Duke University administration that behaved outrageously, had it all wrong, and many members of the community, especially the Black community, were wrong as hell!

Anna Nicole, The Palestinians And The Media
So what does Anna Nicole's "train wreck" of a life have to do with the media and the Palestinians? 'If it bleeds, it leads,' has long been the media's First Commandment. They love the salacious images of broken lives and they love images of train wrecks and car crashes. Of course, the longest running train wreck and assortment of broken lives in history can be found in the Palestinian Authority. ... For decades, the Palestinians have been accorded a Dali-esque celebrity. Decade upon decade of bad decisions, denial of reality and publicly documented corruption. Rather than editorials asking that the... ... morePosted at 4:07 PM

Global Warming, As We Think We Know It, Doesn't Exist.
Have you considered asking why is it that when scientists who have studied the Global Warming phenomenon for years say that humans are not the cause nobody listens? Dr. Tim Ball, Chairman of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project and former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg says that since he obtained his doctorate in climatology from the University of London, Queen Mary College, England his career has spanned two climate cycles. Temperatures declined from 1940 to 1980 and in the early 1970's global cooling became the consensus. This proves that consensus is not a scientific fact. Has the world turned upside down?
Debbie at Right Truth asks if the world lost it's mind and says that everything is turned upside down: The innocent are now the guilty. The attacked are now called the aggressors. The peace-loving countries are called killers, while killers are called victims? The French praise the Iranians? Oh, wait. That last one sounds like business as usual for the French. Iran's state controlled news entity - Islamic Republic News Agency - is reporting that the French Foreign Minister - Douste-Blazy - has called Iran "crucial to the stability of the Middle East." On Freedom's Principles
I have been working for over a year on my interactive book in progress, Freedom's Principles: Principles Toward Understanding And Promoting Democratic Freedom At Home And Abroad, which I set up as a blog here. It is now done through the third draft. With this book complete, I'm not sure what to do with it. I can leave it as a blog, make it downloadable free from my website, or try to find an agent that will help publish it. I've had such bad experience with agents (I've accumulated about 50 rejections or no responses on those I've tried for... ... morePosted at 10:09 PM

On 'Europe's Weakness For Russia' - Implications For The U.S.?
Evgeny Morozov's piece at TCS today opines on the upcoming Russia-EU summit, which takes place this week in the Russian resort town of Sochi. He says that the Kremlin has already turned most of the communication between the EU and Russia into a minefield, where nation-states walk on tiptoes to compete for Putin's heart, often ignoring orders from Brussels. So what's Russia's stick? One word - energy:... ... morePosted at 6:31 PM

Day-By-Day, Hour-by-Hour, and Minute-By-Minute The Murdering Goes ON
We live in an age when in half of the world people are generally happy, living comfortably, saying what they wish, and voting for those they want to represent or lead them. They have no fear that the security policy will knock on their door at 3am to arrest them, or as they leave their home or workplace to grab and manhandle them into a waiting barred van or black limousine. They don't even think that they might be tortured, raped while under arrest, or spend the rest of their life in some hellhole of a prison or camp. And... ... morePosted at 10:24 PM

Global Warming Update: Boo! Are you scared yet?
The global warming scam is just warmed-over socialism. The socialist, rationalist, technocrats can no longer make the argument of "to each according to their needs, from each according to their abilities" as the heaven on earth that they'll give us because, well, duh, 100 million dead. And so the scare campaign has become their ideological weapon of choice. Global cooling in the 1970's, and when that fizzled, global warming. For instance. Duh. The Earth is warming. We are recovering from 1. the last ice age, and 2. the "little ice age" of the late Middle Ages. Hello? Can you say... ... morePosted at 8:17 PM

How To Keep The Peace--Understand Power
It's maxim not to be despised 'Though peace be made, yet its interest that keeps the peace. ----Cromwell. Speech, September 4, 1654 Born out of conflict, the labor of mutual adjustments to change, peace is a new social contract. Its spine is a balance of powers; its organs, expectations. But peace eventually ages and, overcome by change, dies as it entered this world: in conflict. And of its life, cooperative and productive, its offspring, experience, will remain. Thus the question: how to assure peace a long and healthy life, and to minimize the burden of its inevitable passing. The Peacekeeping... ... morePosted at 10:53 PM

Economic Freedom and Democracy cannot go separated
Singapore is one of the countries where citizens enjoy economic freedom;Who among us knew that they are denied democratic rights? I always affirm that democracy should come before economic freedom.Or, better, the two things cannot go separated. Nobody talks about the human rights violations in Singapore. Maybe that might not include torture, but the country is an autocracy that denies the citizens the right to choose freely their rulers. "Free to choose? The forgotten victims of Hezbollah,Hamas and the Palestinian Authority
I think that the sham "elections" held in the palestinian territories are something very similar to the soviet union's ones.Elections don't mean democracy. Elections without democracy are meaningless. I think that Regime Change should be the condition to make concessions to the palestinians and talk to them. Public executions of "collaborators" ( brave palestinians who dare to do what the PA should - hunting the terrorists ) are almost a weekly "event" there. But, read the article http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=18597 When we think of Palestinian terrorism, often forgotten are its other victims. For most, it is an unintentional oversight; for terror's apologists,... ... morePosted at 7:55 AM
Dissident Watch: Ayman Nour
By Suzanne Gershowitz Posted: Wednesday, June 29, 2005 ARTICLES Middle East Quarterly Publication Date: June 29, 2005 http://www.aei.org/news/newsID.22774/news_detail.asp On January 29, 2005, just a day before Iraq's first free elections in a half-century, the Egyptian government moved to shut down its own fledgling opposition, arresting 40-year-old Ayman Nour, chairman of the upstart Ghad (Tomorrow) party. In Egypt, the government licenses political parties, a power it has used to constrain opposition. Nour, a lawyer who entered the Majlis ash-Sha'b (People's Assembly) in 1994, broke with the establishment nationalist Wafd Party in 2000, disillusioned with the lack of liberal reform. Who's targeting journalists?
Source: Cao's Blog Lebanese Christian journalist, Samir Kassir, was tragically killed by a car bomb on Thursday. His funeral was Saturday. I'm particularly concerned about his murder and the news that just came out that Hezbollah is announcing victory in the elections in Lebanon. I was going to wait to post this piece, but I guess the time is now.
