UN: Slowly Killing The Freedom Of Speech

In the path towards censorship of which Islam profits, we have now that the special rapporteur on freedom of speech from UN Council for Human Rights will, according to the new UNCHR resolution: report on instances in which the abuse of the right of freedom of expression constitutes an act of racial or religious discrimination. The amended resolution was adopted on 28 March in Geneva by 32 votes in favour, mainly Islamic states, with support from China, Cuba and Russia. There were no votes against, but 15 abstentions. The measure was proposed by paragons of freedom Egypt and Pakistan... ... more

The Liberal Attack on Freedom of Speech

The American left has adopted a totalitarian mindset; they're actively working to stamp out dissent. By Robert Knight Culture and Media Institute May 24, 2007 - With permission - It's been 43 years since student protester Mario Savi ignited the "free speech movement" at Berkeley with his famous address urging students "to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus -- and you've got to make it stop!" Today, liberals are still trying to stop "the machine," but they're not aiming at the government or university officials. The "machine" they are... ... more

Free Speech And Religious 'Sensitivity'

David Thompson points to Oliver Kamm piece that offers a sturdy and unforgiving defense of free speech, while taking a swipe at the evasion, dishonesty and spinelessness that increasingly surrounds the issue. An interesting read, indeed.... ... more

'Indoctrinate You' Trailer

"Indoctrinate U" examines the extent of political bias in American higher education, and just may be one of the most important documentaries of the year. It might also be the most important documentary you aren't able to see this year. So unless the filmmaker can prove to an audience exists -- that you want to see it, Indoctrinate U might not come to a theater near you. You can help by signing up to see the film if it comes to your area.... ... more

The Next Step (for 'Egyptian Sandmonkey')

Egyptian Sandmonkey's post at Hyscience has been reposted below in its entirety. It has came to my attention that the reasons of my quitting were not clear for some people, which is probably due to the fact that I didn't exactly elaborate on why I did what I did or what it means. This is an effort to remedy that. This is not me coming back to blogging though: this wasn't me crying wolf or a publicity stunt, so fans and haters, don't raise your hopes up or don't get disappointed, respectively. This is a clarification, more than anything. 1)... ... more

San Francisco 'Values'?

In San Francisco as in throughout America, you have a fundamental, constitutional, First Amendment, free-expression right to desecrate the American flag. However, evidently, not the jihadist flags of Hamas and Hezhollah! So what in the hell is going on at San Francisco State University? (hat tip - Ace of Spades)... ... more

Academic Free Speech In Free Fall At Columbia University; Minutemen Greeted With Fists Instead Of Dialogue

To really appreciate the degree of free fall, the Columbia College Republicans, who sponsored the speech, called the protest a "precoordinated attack," which it most likely was indeed, but the Chicano Marxists contend it was the Minuteman who became violent (the Minutemen were trying to give a talk). So before we go any further, just watch the video of Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist, an invited guest at Columbia, trying to give a speech on immigration: The New York Sun describes the attack on Gilchrest: On Wednesday evening, the gathering came to an untimely demise when, a minute into the... ... more

Allow myself to introduce... myself.

Dave joins the HyScience Blog Team and introduces some topics he hopes to explore in future posts. Such topics include the historical impact of robust free speech in the public square on the growth of American democracy, the civil negotiations that are ongoing between the interests of liberty and security in our modern society, the disastrous legacy of fascism and anti-Semitism in Europe and the Middle East, and how we can defend of our own way of life, bring freedom to the oppressed peoples of enemy states, and in doing so win them over to our side.

A 21st Century Manifesto For Freedom

Via Michelle Malkin: MANIFESTO: Together facing the new totalitarianism After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new totalitarian global threat: Islamism. We, writers, journalists, intellectuals, call for resistance to religious totalitarianism and for the promotion of freedom, equal opportunity and secular values for all. The recent events, which occurred after the publication of drawings of Muhammed in European newspapers, have revealed the necessity of the struggle for these universal values. This struggle will not be won by arms, but in the ideological field. It is not a clash of civilisations nor an antagonism of West... ... more

The public saw first hand in 1988 how the ACLU was involved in politics. Origins Of The Cartoon Wars

The cartoon wars began with the most unlikely of protagonists. Danish author Kåre Bluitgen is a fairly liberal fellow, a multi-culturist who would seem to be one of Islam's best friends in Denmark. He lives in a very multi-cultural section of Copenhagen, and his children attend school with a rainbow of classmates. He is not an elitist, not a conservative. Some reports have asserted that politically he is a socialist. A biography that is not tainted by any political influence, left or right, is available on a website that promotes Danish authors. The motivation of this site is to expand... ... more

The Jyllands-Posten Cartoons

Our founding fathers struggled to create a government structure that would establish representative democracy, when the rest of the world was mired in monarchy, theocracy, and oligarchy. So here in the United States we often take the provincial viewpoint that we are sole spokespersons for democratic institutions, such as freedom of expression. But much of the world has caught up. Many Europeans are concerned that militant Islam is becoming too powerful a damper on freedom of expression in Europe. Their news outlets have been pussy-footing around the Islamic problem. In Italy, the court system attacked Oriana Fallaci for speaking out.... ... more

Fallaci Accepts Award

Then Fallaci threw down the gauntlet to the multicultural, politically correct, and fearful. "There is not," she asserted, "good Islam or bad Islam. There is just Islam. And Islam is the Qur'an. And the Qur'an is the Mein Kampf of this movement. The Qur'an demands the annihilation or subjugation of the other, and wants to substitute totalitarianism for democracy.

Torturing Bloggers who Fight for Freedom

Curt Hopkins founded the Committee to Protect Bloggers after reading an article about the detention and torture of Iranian bloggers. He writes that Iran has imprisoned more than 20 bloggers in the last six to eight months. Similarly, Bahrain imprisoned three moderators of BahrainOnline, a bulletin board service, including the chief, a blogger named Ali Abdulemam. And, of course, China has a huge number of "cyberdissidents" behind bars. Security police in Malaysia and Syria have hauled bloggers in for interrogation.... ... more

Islamic Anti-Defamation League's goal: silence Islam's critics

Yes, this is the main goal of the Italy-based IADL. It's to note that this association has leftist and communist members, as well. Freedom of speech is seriously threatened by this group.
