Memorial Day Tribute

MemorialDay.jpg

To my son Michael, still serving in Iraq, and all others there with him: God bless all of you. Stay safe, and come home as soon as your job is done. We know that you know, freedom isn't free; and we know that the price all of you are paying is for all of us and your country, and we are grateful for your service.

Your families love and miss you all.

To all my fellow veterans, as our nation thanks us for our service: I know you join with me in thanking our nation for the opportunity to have served it. God Bless America.

For readers looking for one of the best Memorial Day tributes in the blogosphere, for our nation's heroes, you'll find it at Flopping Aces.

For my fellow Marines: A big Semper Fi!

2008 Memorial Day Calender
Actual Memorial Day: May 30 Friday
Memorial Day Observed: May 26 Monday

"Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed greatly to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day." -- VFW web site, Feb 2002

Thank you for that very fine complement on my Memorial Day tribute at Flopping Aces. I think the photo of the Boy Scout placing flags on the graves pretty much summed it up:

As long as our nation produces and inspires young people who honor the memory and sacrifice of those who have given so much for their freedom we cannot fail.

You're quite welcome, Mike, and it's well deserved. And yes, the boy scout placing the flag does sum it up nicely.

Sadly, far too many young people aren't taught about the great sacrifices made in their behalf, done generations before them, now, and to be done in the future.

Semper Fi.
