al-Qaeda Burns 'Evil' Coffee Shop In Gaza Strip
An al-Qaeda affiliated group is taking responsibility for setting fire to an internet coffee shop in the Gaza Strip as punishment for what they deem "unethical behavior," and is threatening others who don't comply with the Islamists' "ethical standards" - although they don't define what those "ethical standards" consist of. On Wednesday, a group calling itself "Al-Qaeda in Palestine" threatened to harm Palestinians who choose to cooperate in any way with Israel or otherwise work against Palestinian national goals.
The the PA is concerned that the al-Qaeda strength and presence in Gaza and the West Bank is growing, and should the Hamas and Fatah conflict continue, the al-Qaeda influence is likely to put the Palestinian leadership and the international community in a position of having to deal with an increased presence of al-Qaeda and its affiliated organizations not only the Gaza and West Bank, but also throughout the region.
A thought comes to mind here. Given that beheadings, suicide bombings, the severing of limbs, the gouging of eyes, and a wide range of other incredibly inhuman methods of torture are all standard fair for al-Qaeda and other Islamic extremist groups - including some of the people in Hamas and Fatah, just what "ethical standards" could they possibly be speaking of? Besides, what kind of "ethical standards" are involved in burning down an internet coffee house?
And as for the increasing influence of al-Qaeda in Gaza, the West Bank, what does this say about the Palestinian people that are allowing this to occur, and who have done much to establish an evironment that fuels the radicalization of their youth by exposing children to so much violence? (also, see here and here).
Instead of teaching boys and girls to grow up to become a shahad or a shaheeda, why not quell the violence, educate kids for jobs, and turn Gaza into an economic development zone instead of a zone for al-Qaeda? I bet one hundred internet coffee shops that the international community would jump to fund it.
"Sort of" Related: Sigmund, Carl and Alfred - "Voting for Hizbollah or Hamas in a free election, was not endorsing freedom- it was an endorsement of tyranny. It was an endorsement of the another kind of 'Thousand Year Reich.'"
